A Chip being able cure disease?

Could you imagine being able to put a chip in your brain to cure a disease. To control people with seizures or even for someone who lost a limb be able to control an artificial arm. The University of Florida is right now researching on how to cause a small chip in the person brain to eventually cause a person that is complete paralyzed to use prosthetics. The research right now is being used on rats to try and control people with seizures that have epilepsy’s and paralysis. This would be really cool if they could come up with a chip to do this. It is still in the research as of right now. By Jen Hight

  1. The idea of an electronic device implanted in the body isn’t new, but the way they are evolving is fascinating. My brother was involved in a really bad auto accident and has lived with severe back pain for several years. It’s horrible and there are probably tens of thousands of others that share similar suffering. He’s going through a trail for a device that will be implanted that will work to effectively block the specific points of his nervous system from communicating with his brain. There is a good likelihood that he could move forward experiencing diminished and even possibly no pain.
There are others that are living with mechanical heart valves that need to take potent blood thinners for the rest of their lives so the device functions optimally. They’re at risk of bleeding to death if injured or dying from stroke. It would be ironic if they carried another device that monitored blood-flow problems and administered a blood-clotting agent if needed.

  2. This does sound extremely interesting but there is just something about inserting a technological device into a persons brain that makes me question whether or not it is safe. The brain is one of the most complex parts of the human anatomy and because of this it makes me slightly skeptical about this technology. Hopefully there will be something one day that will help cure diseases and if it is this Chip than great but i would prefer it be something more medically common such as a vaccine or something to that affect.

  3. Hmm...a chip to cure diseases. Well, scientists say that we use only about 10-12% of our brain, while the rest is pretty much in a type of limbo. Scientists also agree that the brain has much more power and can do many things that humans right now can't touch on because we don't know how to remove the "mental blockers" that cause us to be unable to use other parts of our brain. Could it be that this chip will stimulate a part of our brain that controls healing?
